2024 has been a full and busy year for both the staff and JCA Ltd.
It started with the news that Director Dearbhail was having a baby. She delivered a happy and healthy boy in August and will be back in the office after Easter time 2025 and we are delighted to have the occasional visit from them in the office. Both of them are doing very well.
We also have two new junior staff members join the team. Stephen is working his “year out” with us and will be heading back to university to study his post graduate diploma in September 2025. Isabella joined us after completing her university studies and is working towards her part 3 RIBA qualifications to become a fully fledged Architect.
The office continues to work on approximately 130 live projects a year in locations from Carlisle and Cockermouth to the North, Lytham and Liverpool to the South, York and Clitheroe to the East and Whitehaven and Barrow in Furness to the West. We therefore have the pleasure of working in a huge variety of councils and national parks. It’s been exciting to help many domestic clients with their new build houses, extensions and alterations and our commercial clients with a variety of projects from office fit outs and guest accommodation to housing developments.
The range of ecclesiastical and heritage work has continued to grow and this year we have been delighted to work with over 30 churches and Liverpool Cathedral on a huge range of projects from Quinquennials and repairs to extensions and full reordering. We have also been working closely with the National Trust and the National Park on a number of projects for the renovation of a number of traditional agricultural barns through the farming in protected landscape grant scheme.
The year sadly ended with the news of the passing of the founder of the Practice, John Coward. He retired from the practice in 2017 but remained close to the staff visiting the office regularly. He was a mentor, a friend and an inspiration to us all and will be sorely missed.
